A 29 year-old Regina male has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in October of 2014 that claimed the life of a 27 year-old man. The charges come as the result of a five-month investigation into the collision, which occurred on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the intersection of Albert Street and Saskatchewan Drive.
The victim was 27 year-old Rafiqul ISLAM, 1987-01-01, of Regina. The investigation began at about 8:36 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014, when a police patrol vehicle came across another vehicle parked across the southbound lanes of Albert Street near 11th Avenue. The parked vehicle was shielding a person lying on the roadway just south of the parked vehicle. The officers determined that the male lying on the road was deceased, the victim of a collision that had occurred only moments earlier. The deceased male was one of two pedestrians crossing Albert Street from west to east, on the south crosswalk. It is alleged a vehicle, described as a dark-colored SUV, ran the red light at Albert Street and Sask Drive and struck one of the males, before fleeing the scene. Immediate searches of the area did not locate the vehicle, but on October 8, 2014, police found the vehicle they believed to be involved. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest, on March 19, 2015, of a 29 year-old Regina male.
Twenty-nine year-old Aaron John BLOCH, DOB: 1986-02-02, of Regina is charged with Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Causing Death [249(4) CC] and Fail To Stop at Scene of Accident [252 CC]. BLOCH was released on March 19, 2015 and will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on April 28, 2015.
