A 15 year-old male youth is facing two charges in connection with an incident on January 21, 2015 at a Regina high school that led to heightened security procedures and a deployment of police resources.
On January 21, 2015 at about 2:15 p.m., police received a report of a threat of a possible firearm near a public high school in the 1200 block of College Avenue. The preliminary report was that one student indicated to another student that someone was outside with a gun. The School Resource Officer (SRO) began an investigation which included conducting an address check to locate the suspect. At the same time, additional officers were sent to the first school and a nearby Catholic high school to act as liaisons between the schools and the Regina Police Service. A “Secure the Building” procedure was enacted at both schools, locking doors, to monitor/control anyone entering or leaving. Upon further investigation, police determined that the threat of a weapon was false and the schools returned to normal operations. Subsequent investigation into this incident led to charges against a 15 year-old male.
The youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is facing a charge of Public Mischief [140(1)(C) cc] and With Intent to Alarm Convey False Messages [372(1) CC]. The accused will make his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court on April 15, 2015.
