A 16 year-old male youth has been charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Regina’s Ring Road on Friday, March 13, 2015.
At approximately 4:06 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, police and other emergency services were dispatched to a collision that had just occurred in the westbound lanes of the Ring Road, just south of the McDonald Street exit. The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle, with a male driver and three male occupants, was proceeding eastbound on the Ring Road when it crossed the ditch and struck a westbound vehicle, head-on. The driver of the westbound vehicle: a 49 year-old Regina male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. A male passenger in the westbound vehicle, as well as the four occupants of the eastbound vehicle, were taken to hospital by EMS. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
Subsequent investigation, carried out in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, led to the arrest of the 16 year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle. He is facing a total of six charges in connection with the collision. This investigation is ongoing.
The 16 year-old cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is facing one charge of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death [249(4) CC]; two charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm [249(3) CC]; one charge of Criminal Negligence Causing Death [220 CC]; and two charges of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm [221 CC]. The youth has been released on an Undertaking to appear in Youth Court on April 29, 2015.
