An adult male is deceased, following a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred in the late afternoon on the Ring Road, near the McDonald Street exit. The Regina Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, is investigating.
At approximately 4:06 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, police and other emergency services were dispatched to a collision that had just occurred in the westbound lanes of the Ring Road, just south of the McDonald Street exit. Although it is very early in this investigation, the preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle, with a male driver and three male occupants, was proceeding eastbound on the Ring Road when it crossed the ditch and struck a westbound vehicle, head-on. The driver of the westbound vehicle: an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. A male passenger in the westbound vehicle, as well as the four occupants of the eastbound vehicle, were taken to hospital by EMS. Police set up a perimeter and diverted traffic away from the collision scene. The roadway will remain closed so that investigators can collect physical evidence and measurements at the scene.
The identity of the deceased person has been confirmed and police are in the process of notifying his next-of-kin. His name will not be released by police at this time.
This investigation is ongoing; there are no other details for release at this time. Police are encouraging anyone who may have an account of the circumstances leading up to the collision to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. We will notify the media and the public once the roadway is open again to traffic.
