The Regina Police Service wishes to advise the public and members of the media of a training session for the Regina Police Service Underwater Investigation and Recovery Team, or UIRT, taking place today, Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Wascana Lake. This is part of regularly scheduled training for this Police Emergency Services team carried out with the co-operation of the Wascana Centre Authority.
Members of the public will see police vehicles, including the UIRT truck, as well as members of the UIRT in dive equipment. The divers will be creating openings in the ice in order to conduct their training. The training exercise will run until approximately 4:30 p.m. today on Wascana Lake.
Members of the public are warned to stay off the ice on Wascana Lake or any other bodies of water in the City of Regina. Fluctuations in temperature make the ice unsafe. If you see people, particularly children, close to thin ice, call the Regina Police Service at 777-6500. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
