A 45 year-old Regina male has made his court appearance on charges in connection with a domestic assault that occurred on January 10, 2015 at a residence in the 900 block of Broder Street. Police officers discharged a CEW in taking the suspect into custody.
On January 13, 2015, the Regina Police Service issued a news release indicating that the male suspect was still in hospital, believed to be under the influence of an unknown substance. Once the male suspect was cleared medically, he was subsequently arrested by police and charged in connection with the original domestic assault as well as assaults on the police officers responding to that call.
Forty-five year-old Colin Vale SANDS, DOB: 1969-02-27, of Regina, is facing charges of Assault [266 CC]; two charges of Assault With Intent to Resist Arrest [270(1)(b) CC]; Resist Arrest [129(a) CC] and Disarming a Peace Officer (attempt) [270.1 CC]. SANDS made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on Monday, January 26, 2015, at 9:30 a.m.
With respect to the CEW deployment: as with all CEW deployments, this event has been documented as per RPS policy. It will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee, a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission, which is a provincial body, independent of the Regina Police Service.
