The Regina Police Service Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) was called out to investigate a suspicious package at a business in north Regina this afternoon (Friday, October 10, 2014). The call has been cleared without incident.
Police were called this afternoon at about 1:15 p.m. when employees at a business in the 600 block of Albert Street noticed a camping cooler outside the back door of the building. The cooler is a type that can be plugged into a vehicle or RV, but this cooler appeared to be suspicious and no one could explain how it had gotten there. Members of the Explosives Disposal Unit were called as a precaution and the area was closed off. After some investigative work by the EDU, it was determined that the object was simply an empty cooler and did not pose any threat. The area was cleared and things have returned to normal.
An event such as this one serves as a reminder to the public to avoid handling any object that looks suspicious. Call police in these circumstances; officers will be dispatched. If necessary, additional emergency services personnel, who are specially trained and equipped to deal with potential explosive devices, will be sent to investigate.
