The Regina Police Service is encouraging citizens to lock their cars, homes and garages when not in use. Don’t leave vehicles unlocked or with keys left in them. Take your garage door openers into the house with you; don’t leave them in your vehicle, especially if it’s left unlocked. Keep all valuables and spare change out of sight, so as not to entice possible thefts. Lock your garage doors when not at home and at night.
In the month of August, there were 81 vehicles stolen in Regina, and 32 of those had the keys left in the vehicle. There were also 80 break & enters into garages in August. For the week of August 26th to September 2nd there were 65 thefts from auto, occurring in various locations around the city, with a concentration of thefts from vehicles in the following locations:
• North West: Regent Park (Ellison Crescent, 1st and 2nd Ave N)
• North East: Uplands (Carmichael Road, Upland Drive, Plentywood Bay)
• South Central: Near RGH (15 Ave, 2300 blocks of St. John, Toronto & Quebec Streets)
We encourage everyone to lock their vehicles and take all valuables into their home with them, to discourage this kind of behavior. If there’s nothing left in plain sight in the car, the thief might not even bother, and will hopefully move on. Most of the vehicles that were broken into had the doors unlocked. As always, please report suspicious activity to police by calling 306-777-6500. If you see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1.
