On August 18, 2014, shortly after 11:00 p.m. police were dispatched to a seven block range of 4th Avenue for the report of motor vehicle incident involving a semi-truck and downed power lines.
A semi-truck was on its way through Regina with a large load that exceeded the normal height dimensions. In an attempt to avoid underpasses, the driver, a 32 year-old male, used his GPS system to guide him through Regina. The driver ended up driving eastbound on 4th Avenue through north central Regina leaving a wake of downed power lines in his trail. At around 4th Avenue and Athol Street a pole, wires and a transformer were pulled down.
Police received several calls and SaskPower, City of Regina, Regina Fire Department and EMS were called to assist. The driver and the truck remained at the scene. No one was injured in this incident however 4th Avenue from Elphinstone Street to Cameron Street were closed and there is need for extensive repair. SaskPower assisted with lifting power lines to remove the semi-truck from the scene.
The male was charged with Driving Without Due Care and Attention [213(1) TSA] and Driving Off Heavy Vehicle Route [City of Regina By-law 9900 Section 5(2)].
At the time of this news release 4th and Cameron remains blocked.
