The Regina Police Service can now confirm that an investigation that began on Thursday, August 7, 2014, with a potential crime scene but no victim, has now become a homicide investigation.
On Thursday, August 7, 2014, at 5:46 a.m., police were dispatched to the 200 block of Quebec Street North, for a report of a non-responsive person being put into a vehicle. When police arrived and checked the area, the vehicle was gone and there was little to confirm what had happened. At about the same time, other officers were dispatched to a house in the 1600 block of Toronto Street and found evidence indicating a connection to the events on Quebec Street North. Police still had not, at this stage, located a victim.
Investigation into this matter, with the assistance of the Saskatoon Police Service, led to the arrests of seven males, two of them young persons, in connection with what was believed to be a homicide. On Saturday, August 9, 2014, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a Regina Police Service Canine member located the body of an adult male, later confirmed to be a 54 year-old Regina man. The deceased person was found in a rural area, north east of Regina. Notification was made to the family of the victim. The name of the deceased person will not be released at this time.
This investigation is ongoing. The names of the accused and charges will follow.
