Three people, two males and a female, have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Central Park in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in the area of 14th Avenue and Scarth Street. The victim, a 35 year-old male, remains in hospital. The accused persons are a 19 year-old male, an 18 year-old male and a 16 year-old female.
This investigation began after police were dispatched to 14th Avenue and Scarth Street at about 3:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014, for a report of a group of people beating up a male victim. The victim was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries that were initially described as life-threatening. The suspects fled as police arrived, but a number of people were taken into custody a short time later. Investigation into this event led to one person being released without being charged. Three others have been charged in connection with the aggravated assault and the investigation is ongoing.
One 16 year-old female, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with Aggravated Assault [268(1) CC] and Carry a Concealed Weapon [90 CC]. She appeared in Youth Court on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. Nineteen year-old Cayden Cheyne BLACKLAWS, DOB: 1994-12-07, of Regina, is charged with Aggravated Assault [268(1) CC] and made his first appearance in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Eighteen year-old Marcus Ivan LONECHILD, DOB: 1996-04-27, of Regina, is charged with Aggravated Assault [268(1) CC], and two Breach of Undertaking charges [145(3) CC]. LONECHILD will make his first court appearance on these charges on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.
