This release is posted on behalf of the Provincial Partnership Committee on Missing Persons as part of Missing Persons Week in Saskatchewan.
Theme 2: Drowning Incidents
Focus: Minimizing the risk of drowning incidents in Saskatchewan.
Boating, hunting or other water related activities can lead to a person going missing.
This year, the Provincial Partnership Committee on Missing Persons has created powerful videos and materials to help raise awareness about some of the ways people can go missing. Review of the 119 missing persons reveals that approximately 22 are persons presumed to have drowned. They are those where a body has never been recovered. We have on average, 20 individuals in Saskatchewan that drown annually. It’s important to recognize the sad reality is that most of these cases are preventable.
