Three males have been charged in connection with a firearm-related incident that resulted in a high-risk traffic stop on McCarthy Boulevard on Monday, April 21st.
At about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, police were called to Hastings Crescent in the northwest part of the city after a report that three males were observed placing a long-barrelled firearm into a vehicle, first into the back seat and then into the trunk, before leaving in the vehicle. Police in the area were able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the area of McCarthy Boulevard and 7th Avenue North. Three males; two 17 year-olds and an 18 year-old; were taken into custody without incident. A shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle, as well as ammunition. Investigation into this incident led to charges against all three males.
The two 17 year-old males cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm [91(1) CC] and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle [94(1)(a) CC]. Eighteen year-old Jeremy Erik Gary FRANCIS, DOB: 1995-04-28, of Regina, is also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm [91(1) CC] and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle [94(1)(a) CC]. All three were released on Appearance Notices with a court date of June 25, 2014.
