The Regina Police Service is reminding motorists to take care out on our roads this evening and through the weekend. Since 6:00 a.m. today (Friday, January 4, 2014), police have been dispatched to 17 collisions in total. Of these: 14 collisions involved property damage and three were hit-and-run collisions (not involving injuries). Fortunately there have been no collisions reported (so far) involving injuries. Note: minor fender benders where vehicles can still be driven (including cars sliding into the ditch), where there’s been no injury or evidence of intoxication, are not reported to police; they are reported directly to SGI, so the aforementioned numbers do not include these.
The Regina Police Service reminds motorists to check on weather and road conditions before setting out on the highways. Avoid unnecessary travel. If you must drive, make sure your vehicle is cleared of snow; give yourself extra time to get to your destination so you don’t hurry and drive too fast for road conditions. Slow down and drive cautiously; this is especially true on roadways like the Ring Road and Lewvan Drive, where speed limits are normally higher than 50 km/h, in good conditions. Always give yourself a little extra time and distance to react to other traffic. Be patient and courteous.
