The Regina Police Service wishes to advise the public of an incident this week involving an adult male behaving in a suspicious manner, who falsely identified himself as a police officer when he was challenged by a member of the public.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at about 6:29 p.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of Montague Street for a report of a suspicious male. A 31 year-old resident on the street said her son was playing outside when she observed an unknown adult male holding her four year-old boy. When the complainant’s brother challenged the male he said he was an undercover police officer, but then made an excuse for not being able to provide identification. The child was not physically harmed or emotionally distraught. The suspect male is described as 5’ 8” tall, with a heavy build. The male is also described as “dark-skinned” and was said to be wearing a green sweatshirt and grey pants. The male had no facial hair and appeared to be 20-25 years old. This person is not a member of the Regina Police Service.
Police have no known suspect at this time. It is not clear what this person’s intentions were, so the Regina Police Service cautions the public to simply be aware of this matter and, as always, to report any suspicious activity to police by calling 306-777-6500 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
