At approximately 7:49 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013, police received a report of a garage on fire at 1900 block York Street. Preliminary investigation indicated a group of young males was seen leaving the area. It’s also alleged that one of these males pointed a firearm at a homeowner in the 1900 block of York Street earlier in the evening.
Police investigation led to the arrest of five male youths. Police seized an imitation firearm, a hatchet, and a knife. Five youths were charged with numerous offences including Arson and weapons related offences.
The five accused can not be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. All five are charged with Arson with Disregard for Human Life [CC 433(a)]. In addition, a 17 year-old male is charged with Possession of a Weapon [CC 88]. A 15 year-old male is charged with Possession of a Weapon [CC 88] and Failure to Comply [YCJA 137]. A 13 year-old male is charged with Obstructing a Police Officer [CC 129(a)]. Another 13 year-old male is charged with Possession of a Weapon [CC 88], Pointing A Firearm [CC 87] and Assault with a Weapon [CC 267(a)]. A 12 year-old male is also charged with Obstructing a Police Officer [CC 129(a)]. All five appear at Youth Court at 2 p.m. today (Monday, October 07, 2013).
