A 47 year-old Regina male is in custody after an hours-long negotiation with police on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. The incident happened at a house in the 3100 block of 6th Avenue North, starting just after 10:00 a.m. and ending with the uneventful arrest of the suspect just after 3:30 p.m.
Members of the Regina Police Service were dispatched to the house in 3100 block of 6th Avenue North for a report that a 47 year-old male, who was wanted in connection with an incident the night before, had returned to the house. The victim is a 49 year-old female, who had called police at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013, reporting that she had been assaulted by a 47 year-old male with whom she has a relationship. The male left the house and police were not able to locate him last night. Today, Tuesday, September 4, 2013, police received a call from the same victim, indicating that the male had returned. Police patrol members established a safety perimeter around the house; canine was present at the scene and negotiators began the process of trying to establish contact with the suspect, who refused to come out and talk to police. The Regina Police Service advised the neighbours of the situation and also notified schools in the surrounding neighbourhood as a precaution. Police seized a long-barrelled weapon from a vehicle on the property. At approximately 3:36 p.m., the male came out of the house without further incident and was safely taken into custody. There were no firearms discharged in this incident and no injuries associated to this event.
Investigation into this matter, as well as the incident from Monday night, is continuing. Further details about the accused and any charges against him will be made public once they are available.
