Two males, ages 19 and 23, who were arrested from a house on the 400 block of Edward Street, after a Negotiators/SWAT call, yesterday, were in court today.
The males were taken into custody after a lengthy negotiation that began with a 9-1-1 call to the RPS Communications Centre at about 4:17 a.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013. The 23 year-old male complainant, indicated he’d had a gun pointed at him and he was threatened by two other males. Patrol members responded and established a safety perimeter. By 9:00 a.m., police had convinced four males to exit the house. These individuals were taken into custody without further incident. The Crisis Negotiation and Special Weapons and Tactics teams were called to the scene just after 9:15 a.m. and eventually two females emerged from the house (approximately 1:00 p.m.) followed by two more males (shortly after 2:00 p.m.). Officers checked the house to ensure there was no one else inside and later conducted a search of the premises. No weapon was found. There was only sufficient evidence to lay one charge associated to this incident. One of the suspects was charged with a breach; the other had an outstanding warrant, issued by the RCMP.
Twenty-three year-old Maluak Joseph ATHEL, DOB: 1990-01-01, of Regina is charged with Breach of Recognizance [145(3) CC]. Police executed an RCMP warrant against nineteen year-old Emmanuel Charles JACOB, DOB: 1994-06-21, of Regina. Both men made their appearance in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today, Monday, July 22, 2013.
