A 44 year-old Regina male has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 in a case involving a stolen 2007 Grey Cup ring. The discovery of the ring and the arrest came out of an unrelated investigation into a weapons offence and led to recovery of other stolen property in yet a third case.
On Sunday, June 16, 2013, at approximately 6:10 a.m., police were dispatched to the 600 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of a weapons offence, involving a knife and a report that at least one person was injured. When police arrived, the victim, a 27 year-old Regina male, had been taken to hospital. The preliminary investigation indicated that, a short time earlier, two males were waiting for a taxi in the 600 block of Victoria Avenue when two male youths approached them on bicycles, making threats. A fight ensued which may have involved up to six individuals. In the course of this fight, it’s alleged one of the combatants stabbed another several times. A 16 year-old male in the area was arrested, initially for public intoxication and outstanding warrants. Further investigation led police to a house in the 500 block of Victoria Avenue. Police were permitted to enter the house. One of the occupants was a 44 year-old Regina male, who was found to have outstanding warrants. When this male was brought into the Police Detention Centre and searched, there was a 2007 Grey Cup ring in his possession. The ring had a name inscribed on it that was not the name of the person in possession of the ring and Regina Police were aware of an investigation by the Moose Jaw Police Service involving a stolen 2007 Grey Cup ring. Another of the individuals arrested at the house in the 500 block of Victoria Avenue was charged in connection with the stabbing. As the result of further investigation, including a search warrant on the house, two other individuals were charged with Possession of Stolen Property in connection to another Moose Jaw case: this one involving the theft of a vehicle and several items of hockey equipment and clothing, which occurred in the same area and at about the same time as the theft of the Grey Cup ring.
