Now that the summer months are here, and driving season is in full swing, it’s important to make sure your vehicle complies with the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act. A safe vehicle keeps you and your passengers safe in the event of a collision.
While noisy mufflers or other vehicle modifications may seem cool, some are prohibited in Saskatchewan, and others can make your vehicle unsafe. When adding after-market modifications to a vehicle, the owner must ensure those modifications comply with the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act. Vehicle owners need to remember that just because some after-market products are available in stores it doesn’t guarantee they are legal under the Act. Penalties for vehicle owners range from an Inspection Notice, requiring that the equipment is repaired or replaced within a specified time frame, to a fine up to $115.00 for each infraction under the Act. In cases where a vehicle is deemed unsafe, it cannot be allowed back onto the roadway, and police can seize the vehicle. Now that spring is here and summer will soon follow, police will be focusing more attention on vehicle modifications, especially inadequate mufflers.

Be courteous to your neighbours and other members in our community this summer and stay safe!
