The Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed the week of May 5 to 11, 2013 as Saskatchewan Missing Persons Week. The theme will be dispelling common myths and each day of the week will highlight and dispel a myth about missing person situations.
Myth 3: You have to be family to report someone missing
Fact: ANYONE CAN REPORT SOMEONE MISSING, A CO-WORKER, A FRIEND, A NEIGHBOUR!
In discussions with family and community regarding missing person situations, it has been reported that individuals not related to the missing persons or agencies who dealt with a missing person have not always felt that they can make a report that someone is missing. This perception is not accurate. In fact, non-family members are likely to know more about the regular activities/day-to-day schedule of someone who lives alone than the person’s family.
There is a group of cold case investigators who meet bi-annually in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Association of Cold Case Investigators share information and knowledge between agencies.
