Missing Persons Week in Saskatchewan
The Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed the week of May 5 to 11, 2013 as Saskatchewan Missing Persons Week. The theme will be dispelling common myths and each day of the week will highlight and dispel a myth about missing person situations.
Myth 1: You have to wait 24 hours to report someone missing
Fact: REPORT THEM MISSING IMMEDIATELY.
Remember: “a day delayed is another day missing”
In discussions with police, families and in research, it is clear that there has been a perception that there is some waiting period before someone can be reported missing. This has never been police policy in Saskatchewan. It is important to report someone missing as soon as the concern arises because waiting to report may result in lost opportunities to find out information about when or how the person went missing.
There is a group of cold case investigators who meet bi-annually in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Association of Cold Case Investigators share information and knowledge between agencies.
