The Regina Police Service is investigating a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2013 on the north side of Wascana Lake. Police are asking the public for any information that could help in the investigation as well as raising general awareness so that people can take suitable steps to enhance their personal safety.
Police were dispatched at about 5:27 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th for a report of a sexual assault. The victim, who is a 29 year-old female, reported that, minutes earlier, she had been out for a run in the park when she noticed a male, who was also running, but was dressed in casual clothes rather than running apparel. The victim said she noticed the male running behind her twice and also, at one point, in front of her. She also felt that he was running too close to her. At a point, near the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the male grabbed the female and tried to pull her toward him, but she punched him and ran away. The victim then made her way home and called police. Fortunately she was not further harmed. Police patrol members and a canine unit searched the area, but did not locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as male, Aboriginal, about 16-17 years old, with a slim build and brown eyes. He was wearing a black hoodie with white lettering or an emblem on the front. The suspect had the hood of the jacket up and was wearing long pants. The suspect had no visible tattoos, scars or piercings and was not carrying anything in his hands.

The public need not take special precautions, but as always, people are advised to be aware of their surroundings and may choose to adjust their routines or take appropriate measures to enhance their personal safety. For example, because of this incident, those who run or walk for fitness may feel more comfortable exercising during daylight hours, or with a friend or carrying a cell phone.
