The Regina Police Service has dismissed 40 year-old Robert K. POWER from the Service, effective March 21, 2013. POWER was a constable with the Regina Police Service for just over five years, since November of 2007.
On May 8, 2012, a complaint was received by the Regina Police Service alleging that a 44 year-old male was the victim of an assault by a police officer. It was alleged the assault occurred while the male was being taken into custody the day before (May 7, 2012). As the result of investigation conducted by the Provincial Complaints Commission, 40 year-old Robert K. POWER, DOB: 1972-06-27, of Regina, was charged on December 18, 2012, with Assault Causing Bodily Harm [267(b) CC]. Although the matter of the Criminal Code charge has yet to be concluded before the courts, the Chief of Police has made the decision to dismiss POWER as unsuitable for police service under Section 60 of The Police Act, 1990.
Mr. Power has a right of appeal under section 61 of The Police Act, 1990. In the event of an appeal, which must be filed within thirty days of the notice of dismissal, there would be a hearing before an independent hearing officer designated by the Minister responsible for The Police Act, 1990.
