The Regina Police Service wishes to advise the media and members of the public of a training scenario that will take place tomorrow: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at a downtown hotel. The current renovation project at the Regina Inn at 1975 Broad Street presents the Regina Police Service with a rare opportunity to conduct a training scenario in a high-rise building. The Regina Police Service is grateful to the owners, and management staff of the Regina Inn for their willingness to allow training to occupy part of the building tomorrow.
This training; which will involve members of the Crisis Negotiator Team, Explosives Disposal Unit and Special Weapons and Tactics Team; is part of a schedule of training events that take place at regular intervals through the year. Tomorrow’s exercise will get underway at about 8:30 a.m. and will wrap up by approximately 3:00 p.m. Members of the public will not notice any unusual activity around the building but there will likely be a number of police vehicles, including the Explosives Disposal Unit truck, in the area for much of the day.
Unfortunately, the location does not lend itself to more than limited media coverage. It may be possible, during breaks in the training, to schedule interviews, but there will be little opportunity for accompanying visuals. The Regina Police Service felt it important; however, to advise the media and public of this event so that people do not become unnecessarily alarmed.
