A 15 year-old male, of Regina, is charged with Arson following investigation into a fire believed to have been intentionally set at an apartment building on Parliament Avenue earlier this month.
On Sunday, March 10, 2013, at about 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to an apartment building in the 2800 block of Parliament Avenue for a report of a fire. Police arrived and spoke with members of Regina Fire and Protective Services who confirmed that there was fire and smoke in the top units of the building and that the building’s tenants had been evacuated. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. Police conducted some interviews that evening, gathering information from those at the scene. Continued investigation into this fire by a police arson investigator led to the arrest on Saturday, March 16, 2013, of a 15 year-old male. The damage caused by the fire is estimated to be approximately $80,000.
The name of the 15 year-old cannot be made public in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth has been charged with Arson/Disregard for Human Life [433(a) CC]; and two charges of Fail to Comply (one unrelated to this incident) [145(3) CC]. The youth made his court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. today, Monday, March 18, 2013.
