A 25 year-old Regina female has been charged with Aggravated Assault following investigation, by the Regina Children’s Justice Centre (RCJC), into injuries caused to a two-and-a-half year-old child earlier this month. The Regina Children’s Justice Centre is made up of Regina Police Service investigators and personnel from the Ministry of Social Services who work with the additional resources of the Crown and the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region in an integrated Child Abuse Team.
On Thursday, March 7, 2013, police were dispatched to a house in the 3400 block of Angus Street to assist other emergency responders in a call involving head injuries to a male child. The boy was taken to hospital by EMS and police began investigation into the circumstances of the event. Investigation supported the belief that the child’s injuries were not the result of a fall or some other accidental occurrence. As a result of the investigation, on March 14, 2013, police charged a 25 year-old female in connection with this incident.
As soon as it was suspected that the child’s injuries were not accidental, there was no further contact between the suspect and victim.
The accused is an adult; however, in order to protect the identity of the victim, her name will not be released by the Regina Police Service. The woman is charged with Aggravated Assault [268(1) CC]. The accused will make her first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today, Friday, March 15, 2013.
