The Regina Police Service reminds motorists and pedestrians to be extra careful on our roadways this weekend. The latest snowfall has made it more important than ever for drivers to pay attention to their driving and the road-worthiness of their vehicles.
Between midnight and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013, police responded to a total of 18 collisions in Regina. Of those, only one involved any injury: this was a two-vehicle collision just after 8:00 a.m. near Park Street and East 12th Avenue. Fortunately, the injury (one driver only) appeared to be relatively minor. The other 17 collisions, all involving only property (vehicle) damage, were at various locations throughout the city. It is quite likely the snowfall, icy roads and reduced visibility played a role in a number of these collisions. These were collisions attended to by police; very minor collisions, where the vehicles are drive-able and no criminal offence has occurred, are reported directly to SGI.
The Regina Police Service is urging all motorists to take care on roadways this weekend. If you have travel plans that will take you out of town, please check road and weather conditions before setting out. Clear snow and ice off your vehicle. Take extra time to get to your destination. Please also remember that, in this weather, it’s not enough to remain within the posted speed limit; you must drive for road conditions.
