At 1:30pm today, March 3rd 2013, the Regina Police Service evacuated a portion of their building at 1717 Osler Street and closed it to the public, after a citizen brought in blasting caps and cords, which are explosive devices that pose a risk if not handled correctly. The purpose in bringing these items to police was for safe disposal. However, the items were hazardous within the building and needed to be handled and disposed of properly. As a precaution, the Regina Police Service Explosive Disposal Unit was called in to safely remove and dispose of the items. The items were safely removed from the police station and taken to a designated area to be destroyed by the Explosive Disposal Unit.
At 2:45 pm, the building was reopened to the public. The Regina Police Service would like to remind citizens that if they come across potential explosive devices or items, that they should call the Regina Police Service at 777-6500, for the items to be removed and destroyed from the point of discovery, rather than taking the risk of transporting the explosive items to the front desk of the Regina Police Service.
