The Regina Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred just before 12:37 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20. 2013, in the area of East College Avenue and Arcola Avenue East. This collision resulted in the death of a 67 year-old male.
Police received a call of the collision at 12:37 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Just minutes before receiving this call, the police Communications Centre also received two telephone calls reporting dangerous driving in the area. It is believed there were three vehicles involved in the collision; the primary impact was between two trucks. The occupants of the third vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries. One of the trucks, a Dodge Ram, is believed to have been travelling eastbound on Arcola Avenue at a high rate of speed when it collided with the second truck, operated by a 67 year-old male. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, the 67 year-old male was confirmed deceased. Police believe the Dodge Ram truck was stolen; at least three occupants of that vehicle fled the area on foot after the collision. Two males are in custody; a third person is still at large.
This collision is under investigation. It is not known, at this stage, what charges may result. A collision reconstructionist has been called to the scene and it is expected that the roadway will be closed to traffic for some time. Police are diverting all traffic from the area of Park Street and Arcola Avenue. Motorists are asked to choose an alternate route. Police will also confirm the identity of the deceased person and notify his next-of-kin.
