Two Regina females, ages 37 and 55, will appear in Provincial Court today, Thursday, January 24, 2013, facing a total of 44 charges as the result of a multi-agency investigation into allegations of abuse and sexual abuse of two young girls.
The Regina Police Service first became involved with this case on January 14th when it was alleged two young children were involved in possible abuse of a third child. Police responded to an apartment residence in the 1600 block of 12th Avenue. Follow-up investigation by the Regina Children’s Justice Centre (RCJC) led to the belief that two female adults in the home had abused two children living there. The alleged abuse, both physical and sexual, involved two girls, ages 10 and 11. It’s alleged the abuse took place between January 1st and 18th, 2013. Police investigators from the RCJC requested the additional resources of the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.*
When it was suspected that the adults in the home were criminally involved, there was no further contact between the suspects and victims. The child victims have received, and will continue to receive, the care of medical and mental health professionals.
The accused are both adults; however, in order to protect the identity of the victims their names will not be released by the Regina Police Service. The accused are a 37 year-old female and a 55 year-old female, both of Regina. Each of the accused faces 22 charges, for a total of 44 charges. Each of the accused is charged with the following:
Four charges of Sexual Assault With a Weapon [272(a) CC];
Two charges of Assault Causing Bodily Harm [267(b) CC];
Five charges of Assault With a Weapon [267(a) CC];
Four charges of Invitation to Sexual Touching [152 CC];
Three charges of Sexual Interference [151 CC];
Two charges of Produce Child Pornography [163.1(2) CC];
Two charges of Possession of Child Pornography [163.1(4) CC].
This investigation is ongoing. Both of the accused will make their first appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, January 24, 2013.
