A 45 year-old Regina male will appear in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, facing six charges in connection with two recent armed robberies. The accused was successfully negotiated out of a house in the 4600 block McTavish Street this morning in an incident that included Crisis Negotiators and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team.
The event began as the result of investigation into two recent armed robberies. The first was on January 6, 2013, when a masked male, carrying a firearm, entered a pharmacy in the 3800 block of Albert Street and demanded a quantity of drugs from the employees of the store. The second robbery occurred on January 8, 2013, at a pharmacy in the 4600 block of Rae Street. The masked male suspect, entered the store with a firearm and demanded drugs before fleeing in a vehicle. Investigation into these events led police to a house in the 4600 block of McTavish Street at about 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, to speak with a possible suspect. The male’s refusal to speak with police, combined with information that there were firearms in the house, led to the request for Crisis Negotiators and Special Weapons and Tactics. Police patrol members established a safety perimeter in the area and, at 8:37 a.m., successfully negotiated a 45 year-old male out of the house. No one was injured in this incident. Subsequent investigation led to six charges against the male suspect in connection with the January 6th and January 8th armed robberies.
Forty-five year-old Hugh James SCOTT, DOB: 1967-08-13, of Regina is charged with two charges of Armed Robbery [343(d) CC]; two charges of Wearing a Disguise With the Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence [351(2) CC]; Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun) [91(2) CC] and Careless use of a Firearm [86(1) CC].
