Five young persons: four males and one female made first appearances in Youth Court this morning, January 4, 2011, charged in connection with a stolen vehicle incident that happened in the south end of Regina on January 2, 2011.
At about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011, police were dispatched to the area of Albert Street and Gordon Road for a vehicle that was being driven in an erratic and dangerous manner. Police observed a truck, later found to have been stolen, proceed southbound on Albert Street, then turned left (east) in front of northbound traffic. It turned east into the westbound lanes of Gordon Road before turning north on a service road parallel to Albert Street. It then exited the service road, travelling north in the southbound lanes of Albert Street before the occupants fled the vehicle in the 4400 block of Albert Street. In all, five young persons were arrested: one 12 year-old male, one 13 year-old male, one 15 year-old female and two sixteen year old males. Investigation revealed the truck, a GMC 2500, was stolen from a rink in Arcola, Saskatchewan.
The five young persons cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. All are charged with Possession of Stolen Property over Five-Thousand Dollars [355(a) CC]. The 16 year-old driver is also charged with Evade Police [249.1(1) CC]; the 13 year-old male is charged with Possession of Stolen Property under Five-Thousand Dollars (a Blackberry) [355(b) CC] and three of the youths are charged with breaches of court ordered conditions. All five made their appearances in Youth Court this morning, January 4, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.
