The Regina Police Service is advising the media and members of the public of a scheduled training scenario for Regina Police Service Emergency Services teams taking place today, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. in the 1200 block Wascana Street.
This training session is part of Emergency Services regular training and will involve members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Crisis Negotiators and Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU). The Regina Police Service has notified residents in the area of the 1200 block of Wascana Street by letter, advising them of this training session. The nearest schools in the area are blocks away and should not be affected in any way by the training, although the exercise will be in progress during the noon hour. People in the area will be able to carry on with their daily activities; however, they will notice police members in regular tactical attire as well as a number of police vehicles in the 1200 block of Wascana Street and the immediate area. There is no cause for concern, as this is a training exercise only. There will be no ammunition involved in this exercise.
The area was chosen due to the availability of vacant property in the 1200 block of Wascana Street and the owner’s willingness to allow their use for training purposes. Members of the media who wish to observe and/or report on this training may contact the Regina Police Service at the numbers listed above.
