The Regina Police Service is inviting the public to join Police Service employees in supporting Special Olympics on “Be a Fan” Day, this Thursday, October 25, 2012. For donations of $5.00 or more, supporters get a pair of red shoelaces bearing the Special Olympics logo. On October 25th, Regina Police Service sworn members and civilian employees are encouraged to lace up in support of Special Olympics. This initiative is endorsed by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
The “Be a Fan” campaign is a national awareness and fundraising initiative in support of Special Olympics. Special Olympics provides communities across Canada with sport opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. The main focus of “Be a Fan” Day is to raise awareness and financial support for Special Olympics by spreading the word and having participants wear red laces. Thursday October 25th, 2012, is the day Special Olympics honours athletes, volunteers and all its “fans” in Law Enforcement.
Regina Police Chief Troy Hagen will host a media event to demonstrate the Service’s support for Special Olympics “Be a Fan” Day at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012. The photo and interview opportunity will be held in the second-floor Museum at Regina Police Service headquarters at 1717 Osler Street. Members of the media are encouraged to attend.
