The Regina Police Service is asking the public to fight crime with us. Regina car diggers have been taking the easy road to free stuff in the past two weeks and we need your help to put a stop to it. Car diggers are those individuals who rifle through unlocked cars and steal anything from loose change and burned CDs to work equipment and wallets. In the past two weeks, from September 26 –October 9, there have been 49 reports of theft from auto. Of those reported incidents, 20 were left unlocked.
We understand that the perception may be to leave the doors unlocked to avoid getting your windows smashed, and if that is your reason, we ask that you remove valuables. We also ask that you spread the word to neighbours and friends to call us immediately if you see something suspicious such as someone rummaging through your neighbour’s car, or individuals walking up and down the street trying all the door handles on parked vehicles.
Thieves aren’t getting smarter. They are getting lazier. They steal from the vehicles with doors unlocked and valuables left in the open. Let’s fight crime together. Lock your doors or remove your valuables. Better yet? Both.
