A 24 year-old male is in hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening after a collision early this morning at the intersection of Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street. The intersection is still closed to traffic (as of 0855 hours) so collision reconstructionists can gather information pertinent to the investigation, which involved a collision between a police vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at 2:43 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012, the police vehicle, driven by a ten-year member of the Service, was north bound on Albert Street and making a left-turn, or west, onto Saskatchewan Drive. The pedestrian, was walking south-bound on Albert Street in the crosswalk on the west side of the street. The victim is a 24 year-old Regina male, who was taken by EMS to hospital. He is receiving treatment for injuries described as not life-threatening.
This investigation is ongoing. At this time, the intersection of Albert Street and Saskatchewan Drive is closed to traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid this intersection until approximately 10:00 a.m. today. The Regina Police Service thanks the media and the public for their patience and co-operation.
