A total of six people, five males and one female, were arrested and charged in connection with two incidents that happened on Sunday, September 9, 2012, near an liquor off-sale business in the 1700 block of McIntyre Street and in Victoria Park.
The first incident happened just before 5:40 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2012. A 49 year-old male was leaving an off-sale vendor in the 1700 block of McIntyre with a bottle of alcohol he’d purchased when he was approached by a group of people. A male youth demanded the alcohol and other items from the victim; the victim refused and was punched in the face. The suspects left the area as the victim contacted police and provided suspect information.
Just moments later, the Regina Police Service Communications Centre received a report of an assault in Victoria Park. A 33 year-old male and 34 year-old female were approached by a group of people. It’s alleged one of the group demanded cigarettes from the 33 year-old male; the victim replied that he had no cigarettes and it’s alleged one of the suspect males pushed and then punched the victim several times in the face. The description of the assailant matched that of one of the suspects in the robbery minutes earlier in the 1700 block McIntyre. Police located the male and arrested him without further incident. The other suspects were arrested without incident nearby.
As a result of investigation into these incidents, six people are facing charges; two of these are 17 year-old male youths. The youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both of the youths are charged with Robbery [343(b) CC]. One of the youths is also charged with Assault [266 CC] and a Fail to Comply [137 YCJA]. The youths will make their first court appearances on these charges in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. today, Monday, September 10, 2012.
Also charged with robbery are: 22 year-old Louisa Marion LACHEUR, DOB: 1990-03-18; 25 year-old Corey Robert CARDINAL, DOB: 1987-04-28; 21 year-old Steven Sean HEPPER, DOB: 1991-01-02; and 33 year-old Dennis Richard MCNAB, DOB 1979-08-28, all of Regina. In addition, Corey CARDINAL is charged with Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 [355(b) CC] and a Breach of Recognizance [145(3) CC]. Steven HEPPER is also charged with a Breach of Recognizance [145(3) CC] and a Breach of Probation {733.1(1) CC]. The adult co-accused will make their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today, Monday, September 10, 2012.
