Regina loves football, but being a pedestrian here should not be a full contact sport. The Regina Police Service is reminding motorist and pedestrians that the best way to avoid injury and collision is by driving safe and crossing safe.
School and playground speed limits of 40 km/h, are in effect from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. If a vehicle is going 60km/h, instead of the 40 km/h limit in school zones, it needs an extra 65 feet to come to a stop. This becomes a safety issue in school zones full of young children who may be distracted by the excitement of back to school.
When crossing a street, make eye contact with the drivers before you start to cross. This ensures that both driver and pedestrian are aware of each other and will behave safely. Drivers, when you come up to a crosswalk and you see pedestrians, especially children waiting to cross, slow down and make eye contact with them so they know it is ok to cross.
Be courteous and respectful to each other and have a great long weekend and a great start to the new school year!
