The Regina Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault of a ten year-old girl. The event was reported to police on Monday, August 27th, but is believed to have happened the day before, Sunday, August 26, 2012, in an alley just south of the 3200 block ofDewdney Avenue. The suspect is not known to the victim; police have yet to identify the male suspect.
When police first received the report on Monday, August 27, 2012, the victim’s family was advised to go to hospital where they were met by police at about 1:30 p.m.. The preliminary investigation indicates the sexual assault occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2012. The victim, a ten year-old Regina girl, was walking in an alley, east of the 1500 block of Athol Street and south of the 3200 block of Dewdney Avenue. The victim said she saw a white van parked in the alley and a male beckoned her. When she got closer, he forced her into a space between two garages and sexually assaulted her. The girl described the suspect as a male, dressed in black, wearing black gloves and a black mask. The suspect is described as being in his 20’s with brown eyes, brown hair and darker skin. The victim indicated she saw the handle of a knife, but did not sustain additional physical injury. The vehicle is described as a large white van with the windows painted white “halfway up”. This incident is under investigation.
The Regina Police Service is asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the alley east of the 1500 block of Athol Street/south of 3200 block Dewdney Avenue on Sunday, August 26th to contact police at 777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Anyone who sees a van matching the description of the suspect van is also asked to contact police immediately. Also, the Regina Police Service is advising parents to be aware of their children’s activities and encourages parents and caregivers to review safety plans with their children.
