Three males; ages 31, 38 and 52; are facing a total of 109 charges as the result of an investigation and search on Thursday, June 7, 2012. The majority of these charges are fraud and forgery-related. The three accused made initial court appearances on these charges on Friday, June 9 and Monday, June 11, 2012. They were released on conditions on Monday and then re-arrested on Monday night for an alleged breach of those conditions. They will be in court again this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
The bulk of the charges stem from events on Thursday, June 7, 2012. The Regina Police Service received a report of a possible forged cheque that was cashed at a Regina financial institution. Investigators from Regina Police Service Commercial Crimes, in an Integrated Unit with investigators from the RCMP Commercial Crime section, carried out surveillance on three suspects. This investigation led to the arrest of three males from Alberta. Police also obtained a search warrant for a hotel room in south Regina, allegedly connected to the three suspects. The search, carried out on Thursday night at about 11:00 p.m., yielded cheque stock (paper), forgery equipment and some drugs. Additional investigation resulted in the arrest of two more individuals: a 26 year-old female and a 39 year-old male, of no fixed address. The first three accused face a total of 109 charges (including the alleged breaches of release conditions on Monday, June 11, 2012); the 26 year-old female and a 39 year-old male face a total of 15 charges, bringing the total number of charges in this case to 124.
Accused in this case are: – Thirty-one year-old Faysal Abdi HASSAN, DOB: 1981-01-01, of Edmonton, Alberta; – Thirty-eight year-old Osman Hassan MOHAMED, DOB: 1973-09-29, of Calgary, Alberta; and – Fifty-two year-old Said Abdi ALI, DOB: 1959-12-01, of Calgary, Alberta. These three accused will appear in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today, June 12, 2012. Also: – Twenty-six year-old Jamie-Lee Patricia HUBBARD, DOB: 1985-11-19 and 39 year-old Adam DUTHIE, DOB: 1973-04-20, both of no fixed address, will appear in Provincial Court on July 10, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. on fraud/forgery charges. HUBBARD will also face three breach charges at that time.
