A 32 year-old Regina male faces a number of charges resulting from an incident yesterday, April 26, 2012, that prompted an Amber Alert, only the second Amber Alert for the Regina Police Service since the program was introduced in 2004. An alleged abduction of a four year-old girl yesterday morning sparked the Amber Alert, which was cancelled when the child was found in the late afternoon.
Police were called at 10:42 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012, to the 4100 block of 5th Avenue for a incident in which it was alleged that at 32 year-old male had assaulted his former partner, a 31 year-old female, and then taken their four year-old daughter in the victim’s van. The vehicle left the scene as police arrived and subsequent efforts to find it were unsuccessful. Investigation and assessment of the potential risk to the child led to Regina Police requesting an Amber Alert. Amber Alert is a voluntary partnership between police agencies and broadcasters to disseminate an emergency alert to the public in the most serious child or at-risk person abduction cases. The Amber Alert program is administered by the RCMP and is put into place once the Regina Police Service verifies the information and forwards it for dissemination.
The Regina Police Service requested the Amber Alert at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the same time issuing a news release to the media and posting the appeal for information to the RPS website and social media accounts on facebook and twitter. At about 4:40 p.m. police received word that the a child matching the description of the four year-old had been located in the 1400 block of Queen Street; police made the confirmation of identity shortly thereafter. Continued investigation led to the arrest of a 32 year-old male just after 5:00 p.m. in the 1200 block of Garnet Street. Subsequent investigation led to a number of charges against this individual.
Thirty two year-old Anthony Joseph SLIPPERY, DOB: 1979-12-27, of Regina is charged with Common Assault [266 CC]; Uttering Death Threat [264.1 CC]; Dangerous Driving [249(1)(a) CC]; Evade Police [249.1(1) CC]; and Breach of Recognizance [811 CC]. SLIPPERY will appear in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today, Friday, April 27, 2012. At that time, SLIPPERY will also be charged with Abduction [283 CC].
