A 22 year-old Regina male has been charged in connection with a vehicle/pedestrian collision that resulted in the death of a 17 year-old Regina female. The collision occurred at about 3:00 a.m. in the area of Albert Street and 9th Avenue (just north of Saskatchewan Drive).
Police were dispatched just after 3:03 this morning, for a report of an injured person lying in the south-bound lanes of Albert Street, near the intersection of Albert and 9th Avenue. Police and EMS attended and EMS pronounced the victim, a 17 year-old female, deceased at the scene. The Coroner also attended. The preliminary investigation indicated the victim was walking across Albert Street with friends when she was struck by a southbound vehicle, which then fled the scene. The victim was identified and her next-of-kin are being notified; however, her name will not be released at this time. The vehicle was located by police who did an area search outward from the scene of the collision. As a result of investigation, a 22 year-old male, believed to be the driver of the suspect vehicle, was arrested without incident in North West Regina. Continued investigation led to charges against this individual.
Twenty-two year-old Jackan Muvula DAVIS, DOB: 1989-08-11, of Regina, is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death [249(4) CC], Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm [249(3) CC]; Hit & Run [252(1.3)(b) CC] and a Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC]. DAVIS will make his first appearance in Provincial Court on these charges at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012.
