The Regina Police Service is currently investigating a fatal hit and run collision that happened earlier this morning near the intersection of 9th Avenue and Albert StreetinRegina. At present, the north and south-bound lanes of Albert Stree tare closed to traffic between 8th Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive. East and west-bound traffic is unaffected, except from 9th Avenue onto Albert Street. Motorists are being asked to avoid this area.
Police were dispatched just after 3:03 this morning, Saturday, April 14, 2012, for a report of an injured person lying in the south-bound lanes of Albert Street, near the intersection of Albert and9th Avenue. The person was the victim of an apparent vehicle-pedestrian collision. Police and EMS attended and EMS pronounced the victim, a 17 year-old female, deceased at the scene. The roadway was closed to further traffic, pending investigation and collection of evidence. The vehicle involved in the collision had left the scene. The Coroner was requested as well as investigators from the Traffic Safety and Forensic Identification units. Other aspects of the investigation, including the notification of the family of the deceased teen, are ongoing.
