On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, the Regina Police Service released the results of a community survey conducted for the Service in August and September of 2011. The survey was conducted in two parts: a telephone survey of 504 residents, from all three patrol districts (North, Central and South), followed by a door-to-door survey of 49 residents of the Central District. The survey was developed by researchers from the University of Regina, with the survey instrument delivered by Arcas Group Incorporated, a local, privately-owned research organization.
In a news conference, Chief Troy Hagen said, “The Regina Police Service is committed to accountability and transparency; releasing this report is an example of that pledge. Our Police Service is also committed to asking the people of this City for their feedback. This information helps to guide our strategic planning and our decision-making, with the objective of increasing community satisfaction with the Regina Police Service.” The Chief noted that, while the overall survey results show a high approval rating for the Regina Police Service, “there are also areas of concern and suggestions for improvement, which will be further explored.” The Regina Police Service intends to conduct a similar survey in two years.
