A 33 year-old male and 32 year-old female, both of Regina, are charged with Fraud over $5,000 for allegedly using deceit or falsehood to defraud an elderly woman of more than 37 thousand dollars.
In August of 2011, the Regina Police Service was contacted by a relative of an 80 year-old Regina resident with a concern that the 80 year-old woman was being taken advantage of and possibly being defrauded of money. The Regina Police Service Commercial Crime Unit began an investigation that culminated with an arrest, on December 13, 2011, of two individuals, a 33 year-old male and a 32 year-old female. It’s alleged the pair of suspects made the acquaintance of the victim in mid-March, 2011, and initially offered to do yard work in exchange for payment. It’s alleged that, over the next several months, the two continued to contact the victim, each time claiming some hardship and asking for money. It’s believed the victim gave the suspects just over 37 thousand dollars. As a result of the investigation, the two suspects were charged.
