A 32 year-old male, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged in connection with a weekend robbery of a service station convenience store.
On Saturday, September 24, 2011, at approximately 3:48 a.m., police were dispatched to the 4000 block of Albert Street for a report of a robbery in progress at a convenience store. Preliminary investigation indicated a male suspect entered the business and threatened the 23 year-old male employee with a syringe. The suspect demanded and received cash and then fled on foot. A check of the area with canine failed to locate the suspect. The employee was not physically harmed in the incident. Hours later, that same day, at about 1:10 p.m., a police officer in the area of 4th Avenue and Retallack Street was approached by a male who was disoriented and possibly intoxicated. Before the male could be calmed down, he fled from the officer but was located a short distance away. It was discovered the male was the subject of outstanding warrants, so he was taken into custody and transported to hospital for an assessment of his condition. Further investigation led to evidence that this male was involved in the robbery in the 4000 block of Albert Street and the appropriate charge was laid.
Thirty-two year-old Matthew Christopher HAMM, DOB: 1979-02-27, of no fixed address, is charged with Robbery with an Offensive Weapon [343(d) CC]. HAMM made his first court appearance in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011.
