The search continues for a 47 year-old male missing and presumed drowned in Wascana Lake today, Saturday, September 10, 2011. At the time of this release, members of the Regina Police Service Underwater Investigation and Recovery, supported by Regina Fire and Protective Services and EMS, are conducting a search in Wascana Lake, just east of the Albert Street Bridge. Divers will continue to search for the man today until they can no longer dive safely. There will be an assessment done in the morning to decide on resources required and the best course of action for the search and investigation tomorrow.
At about 1:12 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011, police received a phone call reporting that a man, who’d gone swimming inWascanaLake, could not be found. Police, Fire andEMSall responded to the scene. Efforts to locate the male included an area search; on water by Regina Fire and Protective Services; and by police in the park, but the male is still missing and, now, presumed drowned. The police Underwater Investigation and Recovery Team is now searching underwater for the missing man.
Police have spoken with a number of people who were in the park this afternoon, but, recognizing that there are many runners, walkers, cyclists and families in Wascana Centre everyday, police are asking anyone who may have information to add to this investigation to contact the Regina Police Service at 777-6500.
