The Regina Police Service will be teaming up with the RCMP, other municipal police officers and SGI in hosting a two-day roadside check program to help improve safety on our province’s roads. This Multi Agency Seat Belt Team, or MASTeam is made up of representatives of all enforcement agencies in the province with a common dedication to road safety in Saskatchewan. The focus of MASTeam’s work is seat belt enforcement.
Police, in conjunction with SGI, will be holding safety check stops in and around Regina today, August 23rd, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. and tomorrow, August 24th, from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. Police officers will be on the lookout for vehicle operators and passengers who aren’t wearing their seat belts.
SGI notes that approximately half of children, ages eight and under, are not properly fitted and secured in their car seats. In order to ensure children are properly restrained, certified Children’s Restraint Technicians will be onsite at three of the four MAST locations in Regina on August 23rd and 24th. They will check to ensure children’s car seats are properly installed and that children are in the correct car seat based on their size, weight and age.
