The Regina Police Service is requesting information from the public that may assist in solving a case of arson which caused significant damage to the Rick Hansen playground.
The Regina Police Service received the report on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, indicating damage to play structures in the park, which is located at 1010 McCarthy Boulevard on the city’s west side. A number of pieces of play equipment have been heavily damaged by fire, which appears to have been deliberately set. The damage has been estimated at $25,000. It is believed that the fires occurred sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 13, 2011, before 3:30 a.m. Investigators believe the person or persons responsible used something more than a simple lighter or matches to set the fires.
